Flooding/Drainage Meeting on Tap For September

Here is one of five things to know about Swampscott today: the drainage forum will be held at the high school and address flooding and drainage problems as they apply to various neighborhoods in town.

 

1) Newsbit of the Day:

Town Administrator Tom Younger said Wednesday that the town will hold a meeting at the high school in September on Swampscott drainage.

Flooding experts will speak. Topics will include flooding issues that apply to particular parts of Swampscott. The issues are not the same in each neighborhood, he said. And some issues may not be the responsibility of the town, he said.

Also on Wednesday, Selectmen's Chairman Jill Sullivan said she wants a townwide drainage study done this year in order to understand the entirety of the problem.

2) Town and School Watch:

The Open Space & Recreation Plan Committee has been developing a new Open Space & Recreation Plan for the town of Swampscott since August 2012. After reviewing numerous previous studies including the last plan from 1983, performing a community survey, and meeting with town boards, departments and experts, the committee has completed a draft of a new Plan.

A community forum will be held Tuesday, June 11, at 7 pm at Swampscott High School in the auditorium. It will focus on explaining the purpose of a plan, describing the current state and issues of the town's open spaces and recreation areas, outlining the analysis of needs, and presenting the goals and objectives to help Swampscott improve and fully realize the potential of these key features in town.

3) Swampscott Academics:

Daiva N. Slotkus Miksyte, of Swampscott, graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in management from Clark University on Sunday, May 19.. Slotus Miksyte is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society and is the recipient of the Department of Management's Morton H. Sigel Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Management Major.

4) Weather Watch: 

Rain. Patchy fog before 9am, then Patchy fog after 11am. High near 59. Northeast wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
