Five Things You Need to Know Today: May 8

Thursday, May 10, at 7 p.m., the Swampscott High School Concert Band will present its Spring Concert.

1) Newsbit of the Day:  Thursday, May 10, at 7 p.m., the Swampscott High School Concert Band will present its Spring Concert at the high school.  Under the direction of Mr. Scott Winship, the band will play selections from Queen, Celebration for Winds and Percussion and a medley of Disney favorites arranged by student Nick Hartmann.  As well as the concert, works by high school art students will be on display in the atrium.  The concert and art show are free, and all are welcome.

2) Swampscott Scholars:  inducted 29 National Honor Society members on March 13. The society honors students for excellence in four areas: scholarship, leadership, service and character. One of the 29 students was Amalia Llorente.

3) Swampscott Athletics: The girls and boys track teams square up against Peabody today at 4 pm at Jackson Field, located behind Swampscott High School.

4) Weather Watch:  The National Weather Service is predicting showers, likely, mainly after 7 am. Cloudy, with a high near 56. South wind between 11 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.
