Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 9

Swampscott High School graduation is scheduled for Sunday June 3.

 

1) Newsbit of the Day: Principal Layne Millington says the Boston School of Medicine bus at the high school this week is a mobile laboratory called City Lab. Students are conducting forensic investigations, including DNA testing.  City Lab's visit was arranged by the science department and the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) coordinator.  The mobile lab will be at the high school this week. 

2) Swampscott Scholars: Eleven participated in the grade 4 Spelling Bee. The w-i-n-n-e-r, Grace Rapisarda, will represent the Hadley at the Regional Scripps Spelling Bee at Breed Middle School on Friday, March 16. Grace will be competing with other students from the region in grades 4-8. Morgan Lenihan was the runner-up. Mrs. Rivers, the school principal, introduced all 11 students as "winners in my eyes".

3) Swampscott Athletics: There will be a registration meeting for the Swampscott/Marblehead Legion baseball teams on Sunday March 11, at 12 pm at the Swampscott football field house on Humphrey Street.

Registration is for players ages 17 years old to 19 years old for our Senior team, and 14 years old to 17 year olds for our Junior team. This year Legion has gone to wood bats for both teams.

4) Weather Watch: Mostly sunny, with a high near 44, according to the National Weather Service. 

5) Tide Watch: Today's low tide at  is 5:25 am (-1.47 ft). High tide is 11:39 am (10.73 ft). The sun will rise at 6:05 am and set at 5:43 pm.
