Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 28

The Clarke School PTA members will seek a block party permit from selectmen tonight to hold their Country Fair Cow Plop Sunday, May 20, from 8 am to 4:30 pm at Clarke School. The rain date is June 3.

2) Swampscott Scholars: Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has announced that Andrew Withrow, a senior majoring in Aerospace Engineering, was named to the university's Dean's List for academic excellence for the fall 2011 semester. The criteria for the WPI Dean's List differ from that of most other universities as WPI does not compute a grade point average (GPA). Instead, WPI defines the Dean's List by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.

3) Swampscott Athletics: The Big Blue boys lacrosse team will get the spring sports season underway for when they take on Bedford at 4 pm at Salem State University.

4) Weather Watch:  The National Weather Service is calling for a chance of showers, mainly between 1 pm and 5 pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51.

5) Red Sox Watch: In eight days the Boston Red Sox play their first regular season game of the 2012 season. It's in Detroit at 1 pm vs the Tigers. Jon Lester is pitching for the Red Sox.
