Five Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 24

The SOS Big Band will be the special guest at the high school's winter concert next month.

 

1) Newsbit of the Day: The SOS Big Band of Rhode Island will be the special guest for the high school music program's Winter Concert and Art Show on March 15, at Swampscott High School.  We'll pass along the show and concert times and other details as the event nears.

2) Swampscott Scholars: Swampscott High Principal Layne Millington reports that Kristen Foaksman has been recognized by U.S. Sen. Scott Brown for her performance at Carnegie Hall as part of the Crescendo International Music Competition, hosted for musically gifted individuals.

3) Swampscott Athletics: Wrestlers Jake Powell and Sean Taylor of the combined Swampscott High/Marblehead High Black and Blue team were named to the NEC all-star team, and the Black & Blue team won the NEC sportsmanship award.

4) Weather Watch: Wet weather. National Weather Service forecasters predict rain and snow showers, becoming all rain after 11 am. High near 42.
