Dancing and Drumming to Repair the World

An international night of dance, drumming and delicacies from the Mediterranean and Latin America will be held at the Sinai Performance Space and is open to the community.

Organizers for 2011: A Dance Odyssey include Maura Copeland of Swampscott and science teacher Michelle Yanofsy.

Proceeds from this Thanksgiving benefit go to two good causes: the Lynn Shelter Association, providing shelter and support to the homeless in the

Greater Lynn area; and youth social action programming that enables
meaningful opportunities for local kids to go out and help others.

The evening will include dance and drumming performances and
opportunities to jump in and participate.

“The teachers are used to working with people at all levels, and there will be great food as well, so “having two left feet” is no excuse for not coming,” says a
member of the Dance Odyssey committee.

Sharon and Grey German, respectively the directors of Divinity Dance
Studio in Lynn and the Mambo Slaves Dance Company in Somerville, will
introduce guests to the fundamentals of salsa dance.

The Dominican brother-and-sister team will also discuss the music behind the dance, as well as the drums to be played by Edgar and Osvaldo Cintrón of
Congueros in Action.

There will also be traditional Jewish and Eastern European dancing, as
well as modern Israeli dance, led by Marla Mindel and Lainie Goodman.

2011: A Dance Odyssey will begin at 7 pm at Temple Sinai, 1
Community Road, Marblehead.

In addition to wonderful entertainment and instruction there will be a Mediterranean and Latin appetizer buffet.

Tickets for the event cost $50 in advance, $60 at the door, with a $25
discount for students.

For tickets and information, please visit www.2011danceodyssey.org or call the Temple Sinai office at (781) 631-2763.
