Cellucci Endorses Tisei for Congress

The former governor praised the former Senate minority leader for his years in state government.

Congressional candidate Richard Tisei picked up a big endorsement Tuesday — former Gov. Paul Cellucci.

“I’m humbled and very grateful for the support of Gov. Paul Cellucci,” Tisei said. “He’s a great and admirable man and leader. During his time as governor, the people knew that a man of tremendous integrity who also shared their values was at the helm. I’m gratified beyond expression to have his support in my race for Congress.”

In voicing support for Tisei in the 6th District congressional race, Cellucci praised Tisei as a “fiscal conservative who’s also a kind and caring human being.”

Cellucci and Tisei go way back in the world of state government. Cellucci served in the state legislature from 1977 until 1991, when he was elected lieutenant governor, and as governor from 1998 to 2001. Tisei served in the state legislature for more than 25 years, his last four years as Senate minority leader, and ran in 2010 for lieutenant governor.

“I’ve known Richard for more than twenty years and, when I was Governor, I knew that I could count on Richard as a principled friend and ally," Cellucci said. "Whether we were fighting to reduce taxes, cut spending, or reform state government, I always knew that I could count on Richard’s leadership and strong support."

The endorsement is the latest good news for Tisei,
