Boston Sports Legends at the JCC of the North Shore

Meet legendary sportscasters at the JCC on March 28, plus check out upcoming programs at the JCC.

Love sports – and celebrities? Come meet legendary Boston sportscasters Bob Lobel and Mike Lynch (a Swampscott native!) at Sports Night at the JCC on Monday, March 28, 7:30pm.  Sports Huddle host Billy Fairweather will be here, too, moderating the evening. 

Do the Red Sox have what it takes to go all the way this year? What about the Celtics and Bruins? Get the inside scoop on the Boston sports scene from the experts!  Ask them questions and see what they think about your predictions! Come at 7pm and enjoy Stadium Snacks, including warm pretzels and beer!

Mike Lynch has been the principal sports anchor at WCVB-TV Channel 5 since 1985. He played Big Blue football and has fond memories of the JCC, where he played basketball as a kid.

“I loved shooting hoops in the JCC gym,” Lynch said. “I’m looking forward to seeing lots of old friends.”

Bob Lobel was a popular sportscaster for WBZ-TV Channel 4 for nearly 30 years.  Lobel is also known for his charity work with Children’s Hospital and The Genesis Fund.

Put a Spring in Your Step 

Register today for the JCC's exciting new Spring programs for kids & adults.  Pick up a Spring Guide at the Welcome Center or download it at www.jccns.org. Check out these NEW Preschool Enrichment Programs, available to all kids ages 3-5. 

  •  Tae Kwon Do: Introduce your preschooler to Tae Kwon Do with Best of Boston instructor Dennis Goldsmith. Dennis will teach little ones the skills, techniques and discipline involved in this popular sport. Your kids will love it! Fridays at Noon.
  •  Yoga Movement for Kids: Children are naturals at Yoga.  This class will help your kids build strength and increase flexibility. Yoga is great for improving motor coordination, too. Wednesdays, Noon.

Turn Your Camper Into a Scientist! 

Now's the time to sign up the kids for Summer on the Hill -- our enriching camps for toddlers to teens!  Be sure to investigate the NEW science camp, Crime Scene Investigation, which turns campers into little forensic scientists.  Kids will analyze evidence from a fictional crime scene, gather clues and put a suspect on trial!  Check out our art, drama and sports camps, too. Fitness Novice? No problem? Get Moving with the J!

Have you always wanted to try Spinning, but are too self-conscious to ride? Here's your chance!  Group Exercise Director Maria Calla is leading Spinning 101 on Sundays at 10:45am and Tuesdays at 9:15am. Beginner Women's Strength Training is another great choice for newcomers. This 30-minute class introduces you to weight machines, free weights, bands and body bars. See results quickly! Pilates Small Group Personal Training

Get the most out of your Pilates workout with this small group personal training session with Andrea Marino Miller. Improve your posture, strength and flexibility while you target your deep postural muscles. JCC Fitness Spotlight: Dennis Goldsmith

Dennis Goldsmith teaches some of the most popular fitness classes on the North Shore at the Jewish Community Center where he’s had a devoted following for nearly a decade. This Best of Boston instructor teaches Body Pump, Yoga, Knockout (a new Kickboxing class) and Tae Kwon Do. He also does personal training.

Goldsmith greets his classes with a smile and enthusiasm.  He’s got an impressive  resume, with a master’s degree from Harvard in counseling and consulting psychology. He worked with troubled teens for years, before getting into fitness.  He’s a 4th degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and a certified personal trainer.  He lives in Cambridge and commutes to Marblehead to teach.

“It’s a long drive, but I love it here at the JCC,” Goldsmith said. “All my students are so warm and so energetic. I come here for the people!”

Adventure on the Hill Open House 

Come learn about the North Shore's most enriching after-school program!  The JCC and Cohen Hillel Academy run Adventure on the Hill, with exciting classes & clubs for kids K-8. There's Tae Kwon Do, Swimming, Chess, Homework Club, Robotics.. you name it.  There's plenty of time for just hanging out, too.
