VIDEO/REUPDATED: 2 Bank Robbery Attempts in 40 Minutes

Police are searching for a bank robbery suspect who allegedly tried to rob the Sovereign Bank in Swampscott and the Bank of America in Marblehead mid-afternoon Tuesday.

Swampscott police were searching for a tall thin man who allegedly attempted to rob the Sovereign Bank at 499 Paradise Road Tuesday afternoon about 2 p.m.

The would-be robber was turned away from the bank, according to Marblehead police.

Police think the same man then proceeded to the Bank of America in Marblehead where he robbed an undisclosed amount of cash from the bank.

He reportedly fled Marblehead in a white four-door older model sedan.

He was outboard toward Salem.

Police are going to review a video from a Grand National Bank camera, which may show the suspect's vehicle and the suspect.

The vehicle had allegedly gone the wrong way in that bank's parking lot.

In both cases the suspect was described as a man in his late 20s or early 30s with brown hair, according to scanner reports.

The man was wearing a gray hoodie and a bandanna.

The Bank of America is located at 66 Pleasant St. in Marblehead.

The descriptions of the suspect who entered both banks are similar, according to the State Police.

Troopers from the Danvers and Revere Barracks, as well as State Police K-9 units and a State Police helicopter, are providing assistance to Marblehead and Swampscott Police, the State Police said.

There were at least 12 officers, some with guns drawn, on the Tedesco Golf Course by Salem Street at 2:30 p.m.

Lynn police were also helping with the search, according to scanner reports.

The surveillance photograph of a man who robbed a North Reading Bank earlier this month looks similar to the surveillance photograph of the Marblehead bank robber.

The robber is wearing purple latex gloves, a bandanna and a gray hoodie in both photographs. Here's a link to the North Reading photograph.
