Updated: Power Restored to Almost 3,000 Homes and Businesses

The power was out for about one hour, National Grid reports.

 

A Salem substation appears to have been the cause of Swampscott's major power outage early Friday night.

The Salem problem influenced a Swampscott substation, leaving the 2,756 homes and businesses in Swampscott without power for about an hour, from 6:45 p.m. to 7:40 p.m., said National Grid spokeswoman Jackie Barry.

"Everbody is back," the spokeswoman reported at 8 p.m. That is, everyone in Swampsott was reportedly back.

Salem State University and one other customer in Salem were still down as of 8 p.m., and crews were working on resotring thsoe locations she said.

Earlier, Swampscott Fire Chief Kevin Breen said power was out at both the fire station and police station, and both were being powered by generators.

An online map at the National Grid website indicated 10 outages in Swampscott.
