A Little Bit of Paradise: Euphoria Esthetics Day Spa

Patch Passport shows you a Little Bit of Paradise. This is a local place where you can feel like you are a million miles away from the daily stress of life, without having to go far from home. Come along and relax...

Just steps from Fisherman's Beach, it's hard to tell when you left a relaxing day at the beach and when you entered .

The airy day spa along Humphrey Street, in its 10th year, is full of light which owner Melissa Bagley hopes makes people feel welcome and instantly relaxed.

"The location is definitely the best thing about having a business in Swampscott," Bagley said. "Our clients come from all over and we've continued to do well even in this economy when a lot of other businesses are closing."

Bagley says she first realized she wanted to go into the spa business after her mother took her for a facial as a teen.

"I wanted to be a lawyer," Bagley said. "But when my mom took me for a facial, everyone was happy and they made people feel good."

In 1998 Bagley became a licensed esthetisian and makeup artist.

"I started by renting a room in this building," Bagley said of her 487 Humphrey Street location. "Every year I broke through a wall and expanded until I took over the building."

Euphoria Esthetics Day Spa now has 10 employees who range in specialties from massage therapy to hair, makeup and eye lash extension application.

"All of our employees have been in the business a long time and have worked at the best places," Bagley said. "We want people to really have a good experience when they come here."

Bagley said the most popular services include hair and color services by Goldwell, an exclusive hair color line; facials, eye brow shaping and massage therapy.

"We have very loyal clients," Bagley said. "We've been voted best eye brow shaping and day spa for massage."

The Trends

Currently, eye lash extensions, brightly colored hair feathers, shellac manicures and pedicures and spray tanning are popular services.

"The hair feathers are huge right now," Bagley, who sports the feathers herself, said. "We attach them to your hair with a micro-bead and they grow with your hair."

For ladies on the go with little time to spare, eye lash extensions have become the go-to service. The extension attaches to the end of your natural lash, giving you long, dark lashes worthy of a magazine cover.

"We are using mink eye lashes," esthetician Elyse Ferragamo said. Ferragamo specializes in eye lash extension application. "Every set is custom fit to each person's eye so you go away looking like a better version of you, not a Stepford wife."

Ferragamo said the glue is completely safe and application takes about an hour and a half. The extensions then grow and fall out with your natural lashes.

"People come in for a fill anywhere from every two weeks to every month depending on their lashes," Ferragamo said. "It eliminates the need for mascara and look totally natural."

Giving Back

As Bagley and her staff have built a loyal following over the last decade, she says it has been important for her to give back to the community.

"I've never said no to a request for a donation," Bagley said. "It's something important and gives that personal touch."

Bagley has hosted events at Euphoria to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis and donated to the Swampscott Fire and Police Departments, a charity set up after the fire on Humphrey Street and has donated services to girls going to the prom.

"We don't wont to feel corporate," Bagley said. "It's really important to give back."
