A Hawk Atop The Town House Flagpole

Below, Judy Anderson's walking tour paused in its rumination of Marblehead's stature before, after and during the American Revolution.

Above, a sturdy gray hawk perched atop the 1727 Town House's flagpole.

The 18-inch tall raptor might have passed for a pudgy weathervane and escaped notice except its head swiveled 180 degrees, his eyes touring the landscape likely for food.

The hawk soon joined the narrative below as Judy considered the bird and its post above the history rich Town House as a serendipitous symbol of freedom.
