5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 28

Today is Monday, March 28, 2011. Here are five things for a Swampscott person to know on this spring day.

1) Tide Watch —  Beach walkers and dog walkers take notice. Today's high tide is 7:18 a.m. (8.89 ft.) and low tide is 1:41 p.m. (.82 ft.).

2) Library Watch — At 7 p.m. the library's  will chat over the phone with Vermont author Chris Bohjalian. The author will discuss his latest book, Secrets of Eden: A Novel, and answer questions.

3) Weather Watch — The National Weather Service is calling for a breezy day with a high temperature of near 38.

4) Local History Watch — On this day 100 years ago, the talk of the town was a lively special election at Town Hall. By a large majority residents selected a 31,000-square-foot lot on Redington Street to house a school. The lot included the old Redington Street grade school,  the Wiley Estate and a portion of the Chick property. Today the lot holds , which is 100 years old. (Information from the Lynn Daily Evening Item.)
