5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 23

Today is Wednesday, March 23, 2011. Here are five things for a Swampscott person to know on this spring day.

1)  Tide Watch —  Beach walkers and dog walkers take notice. Today's low tide is 8:38 a.m. (-1.78 ft.) and high tide is 2:55 p.m. (10.05 ft.).

2)  School Watch — The meets tonight at 7:30 in Room B208 at the high school. Agenda items include a presentation on a Swampscott High School trip to Madasgascar and the Swampscott Middle School's South African partnership.

3) Gas Watch — The cheapest gas we found in town yesterday was at the on Humphrey Street. Regular gas was selling for $3.29 per gallon if paid for with cash.

4) Local History Watch — On this day 100 years ago, several church functions revolved around sweets. An old-fashioned "sugar eat" was scheduled the next week at the , featuring all sorts of maple sugar treats. Meanwhile, the First Baptist Church had a chocolate party the night before, and the First Congregationl had a cake and candy party.
