5 Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 18

Today is Friday, Feb. 18, 2011. Here are five things for a Swampscott person to know.

1)  Tide Watch —  Beachcombers and dog walkers take notice. Today's high tide is 10:48 a.m. (11:05 feet) and low tide is 5:05 p.m. (-1.78 feet)

2) Holiday Watch  — Monday, Feb. 21, is Presidents Day. Town offices and the library will be closed. The schools will be closed all week for winter break.

3) Big Blue Watch — Four Black and Blue wrestlers will compete in the state tournament starting today. The team is made up of members from both Swampscott and Marblehead High Schools.

4) Local History — 100 years ago on this date, a horse that belonged to Horace Feldman suddenly took ill on Essex Street near the cemetery. A vet was called to the scene and administered aid.
