5 Things to Know: Toss Your Tree

The second and last week to toss your Christmas tree is the week of Feb. 3.

Here are five things to know Jan. 25, 2013 in Swampscott:

1) Town and School Meeting Watch: On Friday the Hadley School Council meets from 2:30 to 3:30 in Principal Rivers' Office. Agenda items include scheduling and finding a speaker for the next school forum and collecting suggestions for the next school improvement plan.

2) Newsbit of the Day: Your Christmas tree might be going from green to brown but you can still toss it. The last tree pick-ups are the week of Feb. 3.

3) Swampscott Scholars: Swampscott High 2012 graduate Victoria Wharff received the Paul Webster Memorial Scholarship. 

4) Weather Watch: Mostly sunny, with a high near 21. Wind chill values as low as -11. West wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

5) Big Blue Watch: The Swampscott High boys and girls basketball teams play against Salem on Friday. The girls play at home and the boys play on the road.
