5 Things to Know: A Vote Tonight on Proposing an Athletic Field Warrant Article

Are you a student looking for a summer job? Not afraid of hard work and getting your hands dirty? DPW is hiring.

1) Town and School Watch:

The Athletic Field Study Committee is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. in the second-floor conference room at Town Hall. Agenda items include a vote on submitting a Town Meeting warrant article for a synthetic field or presenting a report at the meeting or for taking some yet-to-be-determined action.

The Swampscott Department of Public Works is looking to hire 10 high school and/or college aged students at least 16 years of age or older to work on town property doing various manual labor such as weeding, weed whacking, lawn mowing, trimming, pruning, painting, trash removal etc.

This is a temporary, seasonal, non-benefitted position and will run from June 3, 2013 through Aug. 30, 2013.  Experience operating the above mentioned machinery is a plus.

Applications may be picked up at the DPW Department in Town Hall or found on the town’s website at www.town.swampscott.ma.us under the Personnel Department.

Completed applications must be received by the Department of Public Works no later than Friday, April 26, 2013.

Preference will be given to Swampscott residents. 

3) Swampscott Scholars:

Marissa Gambale of Swampscott, a senior in the Merrimack College School of Science and Engineering, was named to the Fall 2012 Deans' List. To make the list, a student must achieve a 3.25 grade point average or higher, based on a 4.0 grading system.

4) Weather Watch: 

A chance of snow showers, mainly after 10 am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. West wind 5 to 9 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
