5 Things Including SSU Honor Society

Five students from Swampscott were among the Salem State University students recently inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, the national first-year honor society.

 

1) Newsbit of the Day: Stepan Gevorgyan, Linda Kantanas, Jennifer Miller, Aaron Rice and Sara Sverker, all of Swampscott, are among of the 216 Salem State University students recently inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, the national first-year honor society, for being a full-time student with a grade-point average of a 3.5 or higher and in the top 20 percent of their class during their freshman semester.

Reinstated after eight years of inactivity, the Salem State chapter is one of nearly 270 chapters of Alpha Lambda Delta at institutions of higher learning throughout the United States. Established in 1924, Alpha Lambda Delta has inducted thousands of outstanding community leaders and proudly sponsors Salem State University’s efforts to recognize academic excellence.

2) Swampscott Superlatives: The JCC Tae Kwon Do team recently picked up impressive hardware at the World Martial Arts Federation Tournament in Boston! Congratulations to Jacob Bornstein, 11, Rachel Perry, 12, and Sara Bornstein, 12, all of Marblehead; Alison, Sarah and Madeline Tribendis, 9, of Swampscott and Jacob Levy, 8, of Marblehead.  The JCC in Marblehead runs popular after-school Tae Kwon Do classes for kids, led by Coach Dennis Goldsmith, M.Ed, 5th degree Black Belt.  Details in the J’s Winter Guide at www.jccns.org or call 781-631-8330.
