A Busy Month Ahead in Our Schools

This article shares exciting events happening in our schools

Though the school year begins to wind down, May is a busy month of exciting events in the Swampscott Public Schools.  This week, Thursday, May 10th, at 7:00 p.m., the Swampscott High School Concert Band will present its Spring Concert.  Under the direction of Mr. Scott Winship, the band will play selections from Queen, Celebration for Winds and Percussion and a medley of Disney favorites arranged by student Nick Hartmann.  As well as the concert, works by high school art students will be on display in the atrium.  The concert and art show are free, and all are welcome.

The Drama Club presents its Spring Musical, Godspell, next week on May 17, 18 and 19, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium.  The club's productions are always wonderful.  This year the students have the added benefit of the workshop they attended in New York City with a member of the Broadway cast.  This show should not be missed.  Tickets are $16 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.  For more information, contact godspell@swampscottpops.org or call 781-596-8830 ext. 5702.

Mark your calendars for the Twentieth Annual Cow Plop Bingo and Country Fair, Sunday, May 20 at the Clarke Elementary School.  The event includes a petting zoo, games, food and of course, the cow plop bingo!  Tickets for the bingo are available through the Clarke School PTA and at the Clarke School office. Try your luck, and maybe you'll win the grand prize!

The High School Cable Club holds its annual auction from Monday, May 21 to Thursday, May 24 from 7-10 each night.  The auction will broadcast on Comcast channel 15 and Verizon channel 40.  Hundreds of valuable items will be available for bids.  This event is the cable club's only source of financial support.  Without Mr. Reid and his team of TV students, the important town programming on channels 15 and 40 couldn't happen. For more information, contact Mr. Reid at reid@swampscott.k12.ma.us.

The High School Dance Team will present their Spring Show on May 24 at 7:00 p.m., and the Listen Loud Acappella Group will close out the month with their Spring Concert on May 30.  More details will follow.
