Will Swampscott Baby Again Place in Diaper Derby?

The second annual Diaper Derby is returning to Liberty Tree Mall on Saturday and has spots for 72 babies.

 

Swampscott's Christopher Rowe made a fine showing in the 2012 Diaper Derby earning a third-place finish in the race's inaugural run.

Time will tell if a Swampscott baby will again come away with a trophy.

Registration continues for this weekend's second annual Diaper Derby at Liberty Tree Mall, which is limited to the first 72 registered babies.

Pre-registration is encouraged and is happening at the mall office located across from Carter’s. Registration closes at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Competitors must be crawlers under the age of 12 months and must not be walking yet.

There will be six crawlers per heat and the winner from each heat will go for first, second and third prize. All three winners will receive a trophy at the award ceremony afterward.

In addition to the crawling races, there will be other other activities before, during and after the races including vendor tables for family services, retailer coupons and promotions plus kid's craft activities and goody bags.

All racers will receive a goody bag.

The races start at 10 a.m. in the Kohl's wing of the mall and activities run until 1 p.m. Racers must check in at 9 a.m.

The event is free and is sponsored by WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Nutrition Program and Bay State Parent Magazine.
