Wicked Good Times at the Wicked Cup

Swampscott owner serves a K-cup for every taste in her Salem store.

“How fun is that?” reads Danielle Orloff’s business card. The fun is mixing and matching 24 Keurig K-Cups of coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cider to make your own 24-pack for only $13.99.

The Wicked Cup, open on Canal Street since September, carries 120 flavors, including Green Mountain, Timothy’s and Starbucks.

Orloff, who graduated from Providence College in May, owns and operates The Wicked Cup, says people enjoy trying different flavors without having to commit to a whole package of the same beverage.

“There’s no other store around here like this,” Orloff said. “People love it.”

Orloff, who is originally from Swampscott, majored in marketing and was drawn to her store’s location when it became available.

“I always wanted to open my own business but didn’t think it would happen this fast,” she said. “You really can’t beat this location. The kids see stuff in the window and it draws them in.”

In addition to the beverages, The Wicked Cup carries Keurig brewers, accessories, and winter clothing items such as scarves and knit hats.

Facing increased competition from the big coffee chains, Orloff keeps her prices low as she faces the challenges of owning a small business.

Orloff had just occupied the store’s space when Salem was hit by the flash flooding that caused so much property damage. She arrived to find seven inches of water in the store and her stock on the floor soaked. But with her family’s help, she recovered and was open for business.

The Wicked Cup is now carrying hot chocolate and holiday flavors for the winter season.
