Swizzles Frozen Yogurt Coming to Vinnin

The self-serve shop will rotate 25 flavors at a store next to Petco.

Adam Kessner liked a neighborhood frozen yogurt shop so much that he opened his own shop — with a twist — it was self-serve.

Then he opened another Swizzles. And another.

He has four Swizzles frozen yogurt shops in New England and plans to add to the mix with a Swampscott store next to at Vinnin Square.

He has signed a lease on the building and hopes to open June 1, though he still needs to submit plans to the town. He plans to do so early in March.

Swizzles customers choose from a rotating selection of frozen yogurt flavors, then add their own toppings.

"We put it in the customers' hands," he said in an interview Friday.

They pay by the ounce, 59-cents per ounce. The cup sizes are 12-ounces and 16-ounces. The customer pulls the handle on the yogurt machine and spoons the toppings.

The store rotates through 25 yogurt flavors, with 10 available on any given day, including six standards.

The standards?

Vanilla, chocolate, cake batter, cookies and cream, pomegranate and original.

Others will include cappuccino, coconut, red velvet cake, Irish mint, angel food cake, strawberry, blueberry, sorbet, mango and sorbet.

Eight-five percent of the selections will be nonfat yogurt, he said.

Toppings include fresh fruit, cereal and candy. There will be 30 toppings from which to choose.

The franchise owner is from Rye, N.Y.

Kessner, 35, said taste and atmosphere separate his shop from competitors.

His product is a creamier product, he said. He says his vanilla tastes like Carvel ice cream.

He says customers will enjoy the Swizzles atmosphere.

A wall in the store changes colors. Pop music plays and the store plans to feature outdoor seating.

"It's a very bright, cheerful place," he said.
