Steel Construction Starts on Ocean-Front Condos

After the steel construction comes wood-frame work at the former Cap'n Jacks Inn site.

Gone are about 1,100 cubic yards of blasted ledge at Humphrey Street work site.

In is the foundation and going up are steel columns and I-beams.

About a dozen contractors are on the former site erecting steel members for what will be 15 luxury condos.

Project developer Bruce Paradise said the steel work should last about five weeks.

Next comes the building's wood-frame construction including walls, sheathing and the roof, he said.

That work should start in August with the goal being to have the building weather-tight with doors and windows installed before winter, he said.

The project has progressed well, said the developer, who visits the site two or three times a day.

So far the developer and his partner Barry Turkanis have sold four of the 15 units, and one other sale is under agreement, the developer said.

Ledge removal started back on April 15th and was followed by excavation and foundation work in May and June.

The goal is to have owners living in units by the summer of 2013, the developer said earlier.
