Famous Boston Restaurant With Swampscott Connections to Shutter

Anthony's Pier 4 in Boston will reportedly close in August.

A storied Boston restaurant with Swampscott connections is set to close.

Anthony's Pier 4 , which opened on the South Boston waterfront in 1963 and has hosted generations of Bostonians, Bosox Club luncheons and VIPs, will close in August, according to a Boston Globe article.

Founder Anthony Athanas, who died in 2005, opened his first restaurant in Lynn in 1937 and later opened eateries in Salem and Swampscott, the article states.

In April, Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence visited the Hawthorne restaurant to film a movie called American Hustle — a location in the David O. Russell movie about the 1970s Abscam scandal.
