Chipotle To Roll Out Burritos March 27

The Swampscott Mall store also plans to offer seasonal outdoor seating.

Burrito fans can look to March 27 — the date Chipotle Mexican Grill opens at the Swampscott Mall.

Chipotle will operate in space that once was part of the Borders bookstore at 450 Paradise Road.

The grill serves gourmet burritos, bowls, tacos and salads, and prides itself on using quality ingredients — local products if possible.

Chipotle spokeswoman Katherine Newell Smith said she knows that Swampscott will have a farmers' market and Chipotle strongly supports farmers' markets.

This year Chipotle expects to use over 10 million pounds of produce from local family farms. The local produce is grown on farms within 350 miles of the restaurants where it is served.

Smith, speaking from Maryland, is familiar with Swampscott, mainly its beaches, because back in the day she was a nanny in Beverly and took the kids she was caring for to the beach.

She says Swampscott and the burrito maker are a good fit.

The company is glad to locate in a seaside town with a rich history. The Swampscott Mall location is good from a business standpoint because it enjoys both foot traffic and a main road nearby.

Smith said the town will be getting a restaurant that serves good food made with fresh ingredients and prepared in front of customers.

The CEO says the restaurants want to change the way people think about fast food.

Chipotle strives to prepare high-quality, good tasting food for about $7 in a clean and bright dining room with music.

They also want to offer tables outside.

Chipotle is scheduled to go before the Swampscott Zoning Board of Appeals on March 21, for a permit to offer seasonal outdoor seating — four patio tables and 12 seats.

Selectmen approved the restaurant's food license on Wednesday and one of the board members was looking forward it.

"I can't wait until it opens," said Selectman Jill Sullivan.

That will be on Tuesday, March 27

Hours from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
