Cheeburger Cheeburger Coming to Swampscott

Did we say Cheeburger is coming to town?

A chain known for big big burgers and a mega-abundance of milkshake flavors wants to belly up to a vacant Vinnin Square store.

Cheeburger Cheeburger, a franchise that started in Florida 26 years ago, plans to open its first New England franchise at 435 Paradise Road, the former site of the City Bar & Grill, said Rich Baldacci of the Swampscott Building Department.

The restaurant's motto is Big is Better. Their burger sizes range from a quarter pound to 20 ounces before cooking. Eat a 20 ouncer and get your photo on the  restaurant's Wall of Fame.

Eat two and we will pronounce you Joey Chestnut. Eat three and you will scare people.

Invention and variety are also big with the chain. They claim to offer more than 8 million burger combinations and more than 1 million shake combinations.
You can also invent combinations for fries, salads and platters.

They won't have to do a lot of inventing, or retrofitting, to move into the City Bar & Grill since the site was already set up for a restaurant, said Rich Baldacci.

They could move in by winter.

Cheeburger Cheeburger — sorry, we like saying it and can't help but hear the classic line from the cheeburger Saturday Night Live skit — will seek special permits for use, parking, loading and signage from the Zoning Board of Appeals Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Swampscott Senior Center.

Cheeburger Cheeburger.
