Changing Face of Spa Industry at Essential Friends

The owner of Essential Friends Spa tells us that a trend is emerging in the spa industry: hiring nurses for medical spa services. These spas are called MediSpas or Medical Spas.

Maria Freni-Nigro says she thinks all spas will be MediSpas within the next decade. Here is a story she submitted on the trend as it's taking shape at Essential Friends.

Maria Freni-Nigro, owner of Essential Friends Spa, is excited to introduce two new employees and a variety of new services offered at the spa. Registered Esthetician and RN, Linda Wagner, and Elyse Tufts RN, BSN will be joining the Essential Friends team to provide medical spa services.

Wagner studied at Northeastern University and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She has been working in medical spa services since 2006 and is certified by Allergan, Merz Aesthetics, Botox, Juvederm and Radiesse.

Tufts, a Nahant native and Swampscott High School graduate, received a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Virginia School of Nursing. “I am excited to combine Maria's talent and experience in cosmetics with my nursing background. As a BSN licensed nurse I have a strong background in client assessment, client education, and clinical skills. By joining Maria’s team at Essential Friends Spa we are able to offer a greater number of professional services with your satisfaction and safety in mind,” said Tufts.

The new services include IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) machine services and injectables. The Intense Pulsed Light machine removes unwanted hair safely without damaging delicate pores or skin structures. After an average of six laser hair removal treatments clients can get up to an 85% hair reduction that is permanent. The IPL machine is also used for skin tightening, skin rejuvenation and can help reduce acne scaring. The stimulation from these intense pulsed light therapies also increases collagen and elastin production. As the cells continuously activate, the collagen comes to the surface filling in fine lines and wrinkles.

“I feel that it is important for everyone to feel confident in their own skin. The great thing about what we will be doing is allowing men and women to feel great about their looks with less daily upkeep,” said Tufts.

The injectables now being offered include Botox and Juvederm. Botox is a prescription medicine injected into the muscles to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows. The effects last from six to eight months to a year and the procedure is done on people ages 18 to 65. Juvederm is a gel filler that instantly smoothes away wrinkles around the mouth and nose. With just one treatment a client will see natural-looking results that last up to a year. Both injectables provide noticeable results with no surgery and no recovery time.
