Alcohol for Stop & Shop, Lots of New Eateries and Slot Parlor Planned Elsewhere

Here's a round-up of business news from around the North Shore.

Marblehead

It was a busy month in town -- one boutique closed, while another one opened, a new bakery is preparing to open and thePhantom Gourmet visited The Landing. Also, you can check out this virtual tour of the new Warwick Cinema.

    Swampscott

    The Red Rock Bistro is known for putting out a water dispenser each summer full of fresh cool H2O for beach-goers. It certainly was appreciated during last month's heat wave.

    Danvers
    The Super Stop & Shop in the Danvers Plaza will soon be stocking beer and wine, just as quick as the state signs off on a package store license for the supermarket. Stop & Shop purchased the license from the Country Store & Wine Shoppe for $150,000. In other news, Market Basket employees, including those in Danvers, won a hard fought campaign last month to save the job of current CEO Arthur Demoulas.

    Peabody

    The 11th annual season of the Peabody Farmers Market got underway a few weeks ago outside City Hall. In other news, The Driveway Doctors are partnering with Haven from Hunger on the food pantry's capital campaign and Soitec USA, which is based in Peabody, just completed its first solar power plant in California.

    Salem

    There's a new Italian restaurant opening soon on Lynde Street, along with a Honey Dew Donuts on Canal Street that was recently approved by city officials. Longboards Cafe & Bar is open on Pickering Wharf and Salem Market Basket employees likewiserallied last month to save the job of current CEO Arthur Demoulas.

    Beverly

    A local hot dog hawker's license was revoked by the City Councilrecently after the man got in trouble with the law. Kevin Millet and Lenny D'Italia say they're in business "to make your business look better." In other news, the Girls Scouts are selling Camp Paradise and that new Walgreens store in North Beverly still has a few months before it will open its doors.

      Hamilton-Wenham

      The plan for a senior housing complex is out of the picture now and Canter Brook Equestrian Center in Hamilton may just be subdivided into house lots instead. Also, two local shops were recently given nods via Northshore Magazine.


          Lynnfield

          The MarketStreet development in Lynnfield is chugging along, as store after store prepares to open in the coming months. Among those businesses are King'sWhole FoodsYard HouseStarbucks,Loft and MiniLuxe.

            Wakefield

            Big Jon's has eclipsed the year mark of the pizzeria's operation in town and there's a new boxing gym in town, but Total Knockout is only for women.

              Andover

              A 1,250 slots parlor may be opening up in Tewksbury, so what does that mean for Andover? Read more here. In other news, Andover native Steve Paradis was named Interim Executive Director of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, local dealership owner Gary Jaffarian teamed up with the Andover Auto School to teach driver safety and you can dine al fresco now at Yella. Hundreds of Market Basket employees also rallied outside the Wyndham Hotel last month awaiting the decision of whether embattled CEO Arthur Demoulas would stay or go.

                North Andover

                No longer a "Champion Factory," a local gym for kids will simply become "Legends," and in other news, town selectmen are reviewing a new policy to regular mobile vendors.
