After the Blaze: Peter’s Custom Tailoring Thriving in New Location

Second in a series that looks at businesses recovering from the loss of their stores and offices in the March 1 fire at the Gateway Building. Partners Tina Manganelli, Henrietta Ricciarelli and Vera Spagnuolo are happy in their new home

Just one month after the that ripped through their store and left them with nothing, Tina Manganelli, Henrietta Ricciarelli and Vera Spagnuolo re-opened their store, , just a short trip down Humphrey Street at 646 Humphrey Street, and there they plan to stay.

“It’s fine,” said Manganelli, of the new store front the three women have been busily making into the new home for their business. “We’re very happy here.”

Added Ricciarelli, “It was a miracle, but our old clients found us at the new store and we even have additional clients, because we have better parking at this store and that seems to be a convenience for people stopping in.”

Business over the past few months has been so good in fact, that Ricciarelli said the store now opens on Mondays as well, just to help the three tailors/seamstresses keep up with the added demand.

“We have put Mondays aside just to do the specialty work, like wedding gowns and suits or dresses for special occasions,” said Ricciarelli. “We really have been overwhelmed.

"After the fire we felt such warmth and concern from the community and even now, people still stop in and ask if we’re doing alright, it’s been a pleasure to be here and come into work. We are very grateful to all of the people who have stopped in to wish us well and check on us.”

According to Ricciarelli, the threesome has moved on from their experience with the fire and the Gateway building.

“We’re going to be here for a long while, this is our new home,” she said. “We signed a five-year lease and our landlord has just been wonderful and so helpful, right from the beginning when were trying to find a location.”
