Police To Monitor First Day Traffic to High School

Officers are prepared to ticket drivers who forego safety.

Police will be watching Wednesday morning to see that students obey rules of the road on the way to school.

School Resource Officer Rose Cheever says students who do otherwise will be stopped and ticketed.

The watchfullness comes in response to last year's senior caravan to school on Day One. Some seniors celebrating the beginning of the end — the start of their last year of high school — appeared to get carried away in 2012, sitting half in and half out of moving cars.

Some saw the in-and-out seating as a recipe for disaster.

On Wednesday seniors will start the day with breakfast at a classmate's home before heading to school.

Around mid-morning, they will celebrate their new status at a schoolwide assembly.
The senior tunnel that has been a part of first day celebrations in the past was nixed by the principal — concerned about student safety and comfort and the tone the tunnel ritual sets.
