Swampscott Resident to Perform at Israel Folkdance Festival of Boston

The event is tomorrow at MIT's Kresge Auditorium in Cambridge at 3 p.m.

Swampscott resident Phyllis Eidelman will perform at the Israel Folkdance Festival of Boston on Sunday.  Ms. Eidelman is a member of the Ruach Aviv dance group.  Ruach Aviv will perform a suite entitled:  “Chafla” (party) which shows a joyful celebration of dance and life.

In addition, Ruach Aviv’s choreographer and artistic director Leslie Siegel, has been named the Israel Folkdance Festival of Boston 2012 Festival Honoree of the Year.  The Honoree Program recognizes individuals who have dedicated significant amounts of time and effort to the Festival and Israeli folk dancing.

This year’s performance of the Israel Folkdance Festival of Boston will be on March 18th. This year’s event, which marks the double Chai (Life) anniversary of the festival, will be held at MIT’s Kresge Auditorium in Cambridge at 3 p.m. It should be a lively afternoon with 18 dance groups participating at the Festival.  The Festival brings together dancers from throughout the U.S. and Canada.  Since its inception in 1977, the Israel Folkdance Festival has sought to promote Israeli folk dancing in Boston and to provide dancers with the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas.

The Festival will feature a range of Israeli dance styles including modern and traditional horas. 

Tickets are $15 and are available on-line at www.bostonfestival.org or at the door on the day of the performance.  Student rush tickets are available for $5, one hour before the performance with college ID.

Other special events include a free Israeli folk dance party, which will be held on the evening of March 17th, at Congregation Kehillath Israel, 384 Harvard Street in Brookline.
