Swampscott Grown Ups and Kids Heading to Movie Audition

Plenty of Swampscott people are Boston bound this weekend to land an extra role in the Grown Ups 2 movie to be shot in town.

They hope the extras’ line isn’t extra long but will wait for their shot to appear in the movie.

The , and much of it will be filmed in Swampscott this summer.

The line is an open casting call line in Boston — today and tomorrow — and standing in it will be a number of Swampscott kids and adults, even a baby.

Christine Hopkins of Swampscott is sacrificing her Mother’s Day for her 13-year-old son, Stephen, because he really wants to try for an extra role.

Stephen, who has relished his parts in plays including Snow Show and School Daze, has been counting the days until Sunday.

Day dreaming about it and crossing off dates on his bedroom calendar.

Mom figures many many kids will arrive for the chance to appear in the sequel to Grown Ups.

“We know it’s a shot in the dark,” she said.

Still, she and Stephen hope for the call. She’ll have her cell phone handy early next week.

Last year Stephen and his friend John auditioned in Boston for an extra roll in the Adam Sandler movie “I Hate You Dad.”

Stephen said they got lost a couple times before they found the place and had their photos taken.

Stephen got the call a few days later.

Actually, his mom’s phone got it but she missed the call and the audition people moved on to the next person, telling the lucky extra where to be and when to be there.

Stephen’s friend John has been an extra in a few movies including Ted, shot in Swampscott last year.

If Stephen gets selected for Grown Ups 2 he’ll be an extra in a movie that will include scenes from his school, Swampscott Middle School.

Stephen is a youngster but won’t be the youngest Swampscott hopeful seeking a movie role.

Melissa and Christopher Murphy of Swampscott will be in the extra line on Saturday with their 11-month-old son, Connor.

“We’re starting him early,” Melissa said.

Cousin Kevin O’Boyle, 15, is coming with them, too.

She is hoping they get selected and hoping the casting company gets people in and out without too long a wait.

The Murphys are Adam Sandler fans.

So is Beth Adams.

Beth grew up and went to school in Swampscott.

She is a nurse and works with people who have brain injuries so she enjoys the comic relief that humor provides.

When she heard there was a casting call for the Adam Sandler movie she called her longtime friend, Lisa Marks, who is a huge Adam Sandler fan.

Lisa and Beth have not seen each other for about a year. They will make a day of the trip to Boston.

A little breakfast, a little audition and, who knows, maybe a chance to appear in Grown Ups 2.

At the very least they will give it a shot.

Location managers for the film have said there will be many extras selected for and have encouraged people to try for the Grown Ups 2 parts, whether they are youngsters or adults.
