UPDATED: Recreation Soccer and Basketball to Heat Up Winter

Swampscott recreation programs will serve a wide variety of age groups.

Big Blue Basketball

This fun basketball program is directed by Eve Gambale. It is a 10-week program and will start on Dec. 3, at the Middle School. Grades K thru 2 will meet for 45 minutes of skills and fun games. Grades 3 and 4 will have one practice at Clarke School during the week with their team and a 1 hour skills and game on Saturday morning. The complete schedule is on our website Swampscottrec.com. Indoor Soccer

This is a 6-week program run by Rick Langon with the help of High School varsity players. It will be held on Saturdays from 4:30-5:30 pm in the High School gym starting Jan. 7, for grades K thru 3. Grades 4 and up will be from 5:30-6:30. They will be teaching the indoor soccer game of Futsol. The cost of the program is $75.

Indoor Track

This is a 6-week program run by High School track coach Joe Tenney. It will be held in the High School gym on Saturdays from 2-3:30 for Grades 5-8 starting on Jan. 7. The cost of this program is $75.

Indoor Tennis

This is a six-week program starting on Jan. 7. The emphasis of this program is on developing motor skills through player development. Each child must bring their own racket It will be held in the High School gym from 3:30 – 4:30 for kids in grades 2-5. The cost is $75.

Learn to Skate

This program is taught by FMC Ice Sports and is held at the Lynn Connery Rink. There are several programs on both Saturday and Sundays being held for ages 3 to Adult. Winter session will start on Jan. 7. For a complete listing check out our web site Swampscottrec.com.

Babysitter Course

This program is one day Jan. 21  from 10-3 at Swampscott High School and is taught by Debbie Laflamme. It is for students ages 11-15. A babysitters course will better prepare young adults to care for a baby or young child. The cost of this course is $45.

Irish Dance Classes

This class is taught by Shelia M Bremer, ADCRG Registered Teacher and Adjudicator with Irish Dancing Commission, Dublin, Ireland. This is a beginner course featuring traditional dances such as the reel and jig. Students will familiarize themselves with the basics of Irish dancing and ceili dancing as well as traditional music. The class will be held on Saturday mornings starting on Jan. 7, for students ages 4 and up. The fee is $60 for six weeks.

Ski Bradford

This popular program for Middle School students is in it’s 7th year. It starts the first Wednesday in January for 6 weeks afterschool leaving the Middle School by coach bus and returning at 7 pm. It is $250 for lift only and $275 for lift and lesson.

Sign up is in person only @ Swampscott High School on October 24th @ 7pm in the café. Only 50 spaces are available.

 

Adult Classes

Men’s over 40 Basketball

This pick up basketball program will be held at Swampscott High School on Monday evenings starting on Dec. 12, from 8 to 9 pm. The cost of this program is $40.

Yoga

This class is taught by Shelly Sacket. Her Vinyasa Flow class is suitable for all levels of students, from the very beginner to those looking to expand and deepen their practices. Emphasis is on movement, breath and meditation in a relaxed and supportive setting. "If it doesn't feel good, it isn't yoga." She is certified with the Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour level. The winter session will start on Jan. 23, on Monday night @ Swampscott High School Dance Studio from 6-7 pm. The fee is $35

Total body Muscle Conditioning

This class is taught by Christine Hopkins. Christine is an AFAA & TRX certified fitness instructor and an ISI Professional Figure Skating Coach. Christine teaches a variety of fitness classes at Yoga Sakti, The Marblehead Y, and Salem Fitness. She brings a unique blend of energy, enthusiasm and fitness experience to the studio. This class will be taught in the High School Dance studio on Thursdays 5:30-6:30 pm. Starting Jan. 5. The fee is $35

Learn to Crochet

Instructor Joyce Trapasso. Learn the few basic stitches and practice. It's like learning to ride a bike!
Besides the basic stitches you will learn to follow beginner crochet directions.
If you're a multi-tasker you'll love crochet. Keep yourself warm this winter while making an afhgan and watching television. This class will be held at Swampscott High School on Thursday nights from 7-8:30 pm starting Jan. 12. The fee will be $35.

Learn to Knit

Beginners Knitting is a class to teach the basics of knitting to complete novices! We will begin with learning the knit stitch and then progress to the purl stitch, whilst making a scarf as our first project. Once completed, knitters can learn to knit a hat. Class starts on Monday Jan. 9, 7-9 and is $35.
