North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra at Swampscott High April 22

Pianist Anastasia Antonacos will perform the Piano Concerto of composer Edvard Grieg to highlight the North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra's Spring Concert on Sunday, April 22, 3 p.m. at Swampscott High School. 

Also on the program are the "Enigma Variations" of Sir Edward Elgar and the Karelia Suite of Jan Sibleius.

Music Director Robert Lehmann hailed the soloist.  

"Ms. Antonacos is an accomplished and highly regarded pianist who has been recognized for her mastery throughout the country and Europe," he said.  "This is a wonderful opportunity for the public to enjoy the outstanding skill of a virtuoso in the intimate setting at the high school."

Mr. Lehmann also enthusiastically described the program.

"This is a program for everyone, from the accomplished devotee of classical music to the person who is curious to hear what classical music is all about," he said. "The Elgar piece, which is beloved in the repertoire, will be familiar to many listeners, but to a newcomer it demonstrates the vast reach of classical music.

"The wonderfully simple repeating theme of the piece is heard in gentle and peaceful ways, but also in robust, fast-paced movements.  The first-time listener will gain appreciation for the way classical music can evoke so many different moods and feelings."

Tickets will be available at the door, $20, $15 for seniors and students, and children 12 and under are admitted free.
