A regular diner at the restaurant had a short conversation with the actor, who told him he was in town to be part of the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular Event on July Fourth, she said.

He has his own band and they will perform at the event, according to the show's website.

Andrews said she was excited to be serving a celebrity but she did not want to make him uncomfortable so she did not introduce herself or say she liked his acting in The Shield.

The actor was with his mom, a child and two other women, Andrews said.

He ordered a tomato maytag blue cheese salad and baked haddock and was very polite. He paid for everyone's dinner and left a 20 percent tip, she said.

Bartender Adam Weng said the actor, who is originally from Lowell, enjoyed his dinner calling it excellent.

Andrews, who has been a waitress for eight years, said Chiklis was the first celebrity she has served.

She wasn't really nervous, just excited, she said.

"I like to treat everyone the same but I wanted to give him an excellent dining experience," Andrews said.
