Whiz Kid: Liam Faulkner

With a league title in 2010 and a District 16 All-Star championship in 2011, baseball's been very, very good to Swampscott's Liam Faulkner.

Liam Faulkner had the day off from baseball practice and was enjoying some down time at his house on Elwin Street last week when I caught up with him.

Faulkner, who just turned 12, lives with his mom Julie, his dad Bobby, a firefighter in town, his older sister Mackenzie and his dog Holly. Liam will be entering the seventh grade at the in the fall.

Faulkner is behind the plate for the , who beat Saugus American last week to claim the District 16 championship. The team is currently 3-0, and will head to the Merrimack Valley on Wednesday to play the winner of the District 14 playoffs.

Liam hits in the clean-up spot for the All-Star team and has several key hits and big RBI's in the opening round of the playoffs.

In 2010 Faulkner was at first base for the major Blue Jays who took the league championship. The Blue Jays became the Tigers in 2011 and didn’t repeat, the Nahant Orioles won the 2011 crown.

“We lost some players, and we wanted to win, but it didn’t happen,” Faulkner said.

Faulkner played on the 11-year-old All-Star team last season, and has another year left in little league before he moves up to the big diamond.

Faulkner lists English as one of his favorite classes in school, and Mr. Lewis is one of his favorite teachers, who just happens to be his English teacher.

“Mackenzie plays sports too, she’s going into the eighth grade and she plays field hockey, she’s on the swim team and she’s on the track team,” Faulkner said.

Liam loves football and baseball just about the same, it depends on what season it is.  He plays running back and linebacker in the town football program.

Faulkner likes to be in the water, heading to the pier for some jumping, or to the Beach Club for some swimming.

“I like to hang out with my friends too,” Liam said.

Liam and his All-Star teammates, Brett Benoit, Maxx Cooper, Spencer Perkins, Ishaan George, Sean Lahrizi, Steven Santanello, Cam Thompson, Luke Marshall, Harry Wales, Tyler Sanchez, Jordan Cox and Colin Frary are back in action Wednesday night with their eyes on a state title.
