Whiz Kid: Aidan Lang

Swampscott High School senior looking to leave his mark on the football and lacrosse fields before he graduates next spring.

Eighteen-year-old Aidan Lang has one of the best jobs in town, catching passes from Mike Walsh at slot receiver for the team.

Lang was busy this weekend with two nights of football against Malden; unfortunately he was doing a lot of punting as the Big Blue lost their first game of the year.

The Lang family hosted the football team last week for the team dinner and Aidan helped picked out the fare.

“Chicken fingers, chicken parm, chicken broccoli ziti, lot of salad,” Lang said. “We’ve got a couple of vegetarians so we wanted to have something for everybody.”

The team and the cheerleaders headed to eat at the Lang’s house on Orchard Circle. Aidan has lived in town with his mom and dad his whole life and has three younger sisters to keep his eyes on.

“It has its ups and down, with three sisters, but I like being an older brother,” Lang said.

“My dad (James) has probably been the biggest influence on me and my life, he’s really been there for me every time I’ve needed something,” Lang said. “My dad has always helped me and been positive after every game no matter what the result.”

Lang worked full time at the Beach Club this past summer, with his eyes on heading to a state school next year after he leaves SHS.

“I’m interested in UMass-Amherst, Maryland, Michigan, big state schools,” Lang said.

Lang enjoys math class and English getting mostly A’s on the report card, and he likes hanging with his friends when he’s not getting in shape for football or lacrosse.

Lang also enjoys skiing between football and lacrosse seasons.

“I’ve been playing football since I was eight years old, it’s a great team this year, we know we’ve got to put the work in to be successful,” Lang said.

This year will likely be the last year for varsity sports, but Lang hopes to hook up with some club teams or intramurals in college.

“I’m giving it all I can, I work as hard as I can every week to get ready for football during the football season and lacrosse during the lacrosse season,” Lang said.

“The coaching staff on the football team helps us a lot during the week getting ready for games, if you listen to them you’ll do well,” Lang said.

On the defensive side of the ball Aidan lines up at outside linebacker, and he enjoys a good pop as much as catching a pass for a first down.

“It’s great to score a touchdown or catch a big pass, but making a good hit and tackle on defense is pretty good too,” Lang said.

Lang and the (5-1) are in Salem Friday night to take on the Witches at 7 p.m.
