We've received a number of emails from readers who were curious about the US Coast Guard cutter that has been moored in the waters off of Swampscott recently.

The ship above, according to the US Coast Guard website, is the USCGC Escanaba (WMEC-907) - a medium endurance cutter based in Boston. Click Here for more information.

According to a representative of the US Coast Guard's Boston office, the Escanaba was in port to act as a First Response Cutter had Wednesday's storm prompted any emergency situations at sea.

I have lived in Swampscott for 25 years and I have never seen a Coast Guard Ship anchored right off Lynnshore drive. Why is the ship not in Marblehead or Nahant waters? Thank you Coast Guard for your protection.
