The parade route along Humphrey, Burrill and Essex will be closed between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Saturday.

Motorists be advised that the Veterans Appreciation Parade will directly impact travel in town on Saturday between 10 a.m. and noon.

The parade will be one of the largest ever hosted in town, at least in recent memory, as Swampscott honors Gold Star families and veterans of all eras.

Police recommend to all who are not attending the parade that they avoid the parade route: Humphrey and Essex.

There will be stoppages and major delays.

Those who choose to travel in the area may want to use Route 107, also known as Western Avenue, as an alternative, according to police.

Parade organizers have been out all day preparing the route for the parade and will be out late Friday night, as well.

They have been climbing ladders and placing 100 flags on poles, stationing barricades, posting signs and hanging bunting.

Carpenters erected a parade review stand at Humphrey and Monument.

Veterans Services Officer Jim Schultz said some 30 volunteers plus Public Works, police and fire personnel are involved in the preparations.
