Two iconic swans will return to the Boston Public Garden Lagoon for the season this week.

The swans, known as Romeo and Juliet, will return to the lagoon on Wednesday, April 30 after spending the winter at Franklin Park Zoo, according to Boston.com

The 26th Annual Return of the Swans Celebration is set to begin with festivities and live entertainment at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. The swans will then be dropped off at the lagoon following a parade that will start at the corner of Beacon and Charles streets. For more more information on Wednesday's celebration, visit the City of Boston website.

"I’m looking forward to seeing Romeo and Juliet off as they return to the Public Garden lagoon for the season," Mayor Martin Walsh said in a recent statement. "We recently launched the Swan Boats and now the real swans will join them – it’s a sure sign that summer is on the way in Boston."

The swans' return comes just a little over 10 days after the widely-popular Swan Boats opened for the 2014 season, which runs from Saturday, April 19 to Sunday, Sept. 21, according to SwanBoats.com.

Tickets for the 15-minute boat rides can be purchased at the Swan Boat dock. Admission is $3 for adults, $2.50 for seniors and $1.50 for children aged 2-15 years (younger than 2 ride for free).

The boats are open seven days per week, weather permitting, as the boats cannot operate on rainy, windy or extremely hot days, according to SwanBoats.com. The boats operate during the following hours:

  • Spring (April-June 20): 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Summer (June 21-Labor Day): 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Fall (after Labor Day): 12 to 4 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.

Swans are very nice, i suggest sending one's mother in law to pat them.

Let the swans eat your mother in law, then make cignets and have a warmer May. Everyone happy now?
