Swampscott Seeking Town Poet Laureate

Are you Swampscott's next Town Poet Laureate?

The Town of Swampscott is currently accepting entries of original poems (of modest length) written by local residents for its first annual Swampscott Town Poet Laureate award.

Each applicant may submit one poem to the main desk of the Swampscott Public Library by March 14, 2014.

Judges will review poems and a selection will be made during National Poetry Month, by the end of April,  2014.

There will be two Poet Laureates selected: one will be a young student poet from Kindergarten through Grade 6 and the other, an adult poet age 18 years and above (but no longer a high school student).

Please submit two typewritten copies, one with the poet’s name, mail address, phone, and email address; the other copy without that information, both copies containing the poem’s title.

Both copies must also indicate the designation of “young poet” or “adult poet” based on the above age groupings mentioned.

Winning poems will be shared aloud at the Swampscott Town Meeting on the evening of May 5, 2014.
