Swampscott Ballplayers Drafted Over the Years by Major League Teams

Here's a look at drafted local baseball players, brought to mind after pitcher Chris Dwyer's success with the KC Royals.

1. History/Baseball Notes:

Betty Holmes, one of the stalwarts on Lou Gallo's History Buffs ballclub, sent us a list of Swampscott baseball players who, over the years, were drafted by Major League Baseball teams.

Most of the list comes from a 2009 Lynn Item article, Betty said, though she knew of a couple others who were not on that list and she included them here.

Betty said that she found all but one of the draftees, Chris Howard, in old Swampscott Little League rosters.

Below are the ballplayers (and Go Red Sox).

1965  Billy Conigliaro   1st Round Boston Red Sox
1968  Michael Maselbas  1st Round St. Louis Cardinals
1973  Dick Jauron  25th Round St. Louis Cardinals
1986  David Howell 9th Round  Texas Rangers
1989  Derek January   29th Round Milwaukee Brewers
