Strawberries and a Parade To March Forward

The parade and Strawberry Festival are a go at 4:30 p.m. on June 30, Sunday.

Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Swampscott will step into summer with its traditional Fourth of July parade and Strawberry Festival.

Organizers have watched the forecast and Recreation Director Danielle Strauss made the announcement this afternoon.

The parade steps off from Congregation Shirat Hayam, on Atlantic Avenue, at 4:30 p.m., marching to Town Hall.

Marchers and floats make up the procession including kids on sports team, Girl Scouts, firefighters, police, selectmen and members of other town boards and committees.

There will be a Boston Strong float, Janell said.

The New Dixieland Band will strike up the music.

Over on the Town Hall lawn Big Blue football players and cheerleaders — underclass members — will serve strawberry shortcakes.

In keeping with tradition, senior football players and senior cheerleaders ride on a parade float.
