Staying Strong: Family & Community Connections From the JCC

Day camp — a great option for summer fun close to home.

School is finally out and summer camp begins in just a few days! If you want to give your children an enriching summer experience – close to home – day camp is a great option.

Day camp teaches children valuable life lessons while building self-esteem in a fun and safe environment.  In fact, day camp teaches kids healthy, creative habits that last a lifetime.  An example? American kids are six times more likely to play video games than ride their bikes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. However, 63% of children who go to camp play camp games and activities when they get home!

Here are some important things to keep in mind when considering a day camp for your child:

  1. Be sure the day camp complies with state Department of Public Health regulations and is licensed by your local Board of Health.
  2. Choose a camp run by professionals with extensive camping experience.
  3. Pick a camp with enriching specialties that will spark your child’s interests.
  4. Look for a camp with transportation and financial assistance (if needed).

Here at the JCC of the North Shore, we’ve been running quality day camps for generations!  Our Summer on the Hill camps have experienced instructors, including teachers, professional artists, coaches, chess masters, photographers and more.  Kids love our 11-acre campus in Marblehead with Indoor & Outdoor Pools, Tennis and Basketball Courts, Playing Fields, Gymnasium, Dance Studio and Art Labs.
