Father's Day is almost here! Learn easy ways to strengthen father-child bonds in your family.

With Father’s Day this weekend, it’s a great time to spotlight the importance of dads – and the bonds they share with their children.

Research consistently shows that kids with involved dads do better in school, are more motivated to succeed, have more confidence and are less likely to use drugs and alcohol.

Make a date. Schedule a special activity with your child, such as dinner out, says therapist Dr. Terri Orbuch.

Even better? Let your child pick the event.

Roll up your sleeves and share a physical activity. Family therapist Rox Huxley tells dads to develop a hobby with their child, coach his/her sports team and exercise together.

Check in every day. Experts agree that dads should set aside a few minutes every day to check in with their kids, asking them about their day, their friends, any challenges they might have faced.

Hit the books.  Get involved in your child’s academics, join school activities and encourage hard work.

Here at the JCC of the North Shore, we strive to support families with enriching programs, activities and classes.  Here are a few options to strengthen the father/child bonds in your family.
