Seaside, Sunshine, Smiles and a Stanley Cup; a Nice Thursday in Swampscott

People were walking with a bounce in their step along King's Beach and folks at the Town Hall were wearing official gear of the 2011 Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins after Wednesday night's 4-0 win in game seven.

It’s June 16 and the National Hockey League season is finished after 108 games for the Stanley Cup winner in the 2010-2011 campaign. With over the Vancouver Canucks, the Boston Bruins are , winning the sixth title in team history.

“It was great, really great,” Susan Mayo said while she walked her doggie Dublin along Fisherman’s Beach. “When the game ended everyone in my house went outside and everyone was yelling and screaming and beeping their horns driving down the street.”

Bruins fans working at the Town Hall were decked out in Bruins jerseys and Bruins tee shirts as they took care of the town’s business Thursday morning.

Town Clerk Sue Duplin was decked out in her Joe Thornton jersey, “I bought it for my son,” she said. “I love this team, I’d go to the parade but I have Jimmy Buffet tickets.”

Duplin’s colleagues Denise Dembkoski and Marcia Willis had on Bruins shirts, Willis’s covered in autographs. “I love the guys on this team, but Craig Janney’s always been my favorite player,” Willis said.

Paul Pari was walking along King’s Beach and watched the game last night at home, with his family and a few friends.

“I think it’s great that they won, it was a good game, but I’m old enough to know that Bobby Orr and the big, bad, Bruins were phenomenal, we’ll never see a group like that again, but this win is really great, it’s good for the younger people who don’t know how crazy it was in 1970 and 1972,” Pari said.

Sean O’Shea and Sue Nelson loved the game, and the outcome, but Nelson went to bed before the game was over.

“I found out the score this morning, I knew they were going to win when they scored the first two goals,” Nelson said.

There were three resounding “Yays” from the second graders from the Hathaway School who were heading towards the Swampscott Public Library Thursday morning on Humphrey Street.

“Did you guys watch the game?” “Yay!!!!!” “Are you excited that the Bruins won the Cup?” “Yay!!!!!” “Are you sure you stayed up until the game was over?” “Yay!!!!”

The Bruins will finally join the Patriots, Red Sox and Celtics when they get their own Duck Boat parade through the city.  This will be the seventh title parade in Boston since 2001; people from Cleveland must really hate us.
