Newly UPDATED: Swampscott Rallying To Help Family of Six Left Homeless by Fire

A bank account is being set up at Salem Five Bank in Swampscott to help the family of six who lost their home to fire Thursday morning.

The Ghirardini Family Fund will be ready to accept contributions by noon Friday, said Laura DeMartino, sister of Peter Ghirardini.

Peter's sister and their father are setting up the account.

The money will help the Ghirardinis with longterm needs that house insurance will not cover. 

To drop off cash or a check you may do so in person at the Salem Five Bank, located at 450 Paradise Road (781-593-7918).

We will provide further details as they become available. 

The Ghirardinis, father Peter, mother Laura, and their children — a boy who is 8 and twin girls who are 10 and the oldest child, a girl, 14 — are staying in Swampscott with family friends.

Meanwhile, those who want to help with immediate needs may do so in several ways.

The family has lost their belongings in the blaze at 50 Andrew Road Thursday morning. 

Through friends and family the Ghirardinis' clothing needs have been met.

"They have plenty of clothes from friends right now, I think the gift cards are the best bet," said Lytania Mackey.

Lytania, who is Swampscott High School's assistant principal, will deliver any gift cards she receives to the Ghirardinis.  

In addition, the high school class of 2014 is hosting a fundraiser this Saturday, at a practice SAT test, that they have decided to dedicate to the Ghirardinis. 

Test takers may donate a $10 fee, as a check, to the name of the Ghirardinis. so the class can donate the proceeds to the family, class Advisor Joe Bennett said. 

The class of 2014 is also donating the money from their recent Uno's night to the family, the assistant principal said.
