Memorial Day Observances Monday

The town will host its annual Memorial Day observances at noon in the Veterans' Lot at the Swampscott Cemetery.

Memorial Day observances are Monday at noon and will include bagpipe music, bugles, a color guard and be officiated by the Rev. Dean Pedersen.

Jim Schultz of the Swampscott Veterans Affairs Committee expects that Rev. Pedersen will key his remarks on the American Civil War.

2011 marks the 150th anniversary of the war, which started in 1861.

The ceremonies  are in the Veterans Lot at the Swampscott Cemetery. The lot is located right inside the cemetery's arch-topped main entrance.

"Everyone is encouraged to attend," Schultz said.
