Lunder Busy on Court, Links or Raising Money

Swampscott High senior Josh Lunder helps raise money for worthy causes when he's not hitting golf balls and tennis balls for the Big Blue.

Eighteen-year-old Swampscott High School senior is in his second season as captain of the Big Blue tennis team, and he also played for the golf team last fall.

Lunder is passionate about sports, but he’s also passionate about helping others. As a member of the TV Production Club at the high school, Lunder helped put on the annual fundraising auction on Swampscott’s public access cable channel in 2010 that raised over $10,000 for the TV programs at the high school.

An A and B student at SHS, will be joining his classmates from the Business Entrepreneurship class running a smoothie stand after April vacation to raise money for the Make-A-Wish foundation.

“It’s a pretty cool activity,” Lunder said. “I really enjoy participating in this type of event.”

Over the holidays in 2010, Lunder served as co-president of TLC, Toys for Local Children, that raised money to purchase presents for underprivileged children. The group raised money, bought gifts, wrapped them up and distributed them over the holidays last December.

“I’ve had a great time in high school,’ Lunder said. “Golf was fun, my favorite local course is Kernwood.”

“As captain of the tennis team, my teammates know when the chips are down they can turn to me and I’ll help them and the team bounce back up.”

“I’m there if my teammates need advice or an encouraging word,” Lunder said. “I think that’s why I’ve been (tennis) captain since I was a junior.”

Lunder has narrowed his college choices down to two, Indiana or Syracuse. Josh hopes to study business management and sports management with a minor in TV production.

“Those are D-1 schools, I hope to continuing playing (golf and tennis) in college, but it’s going to be tough to make the teams next year.”
