Little Leage Profile: The Major Athletics

The A's just got nudged out of the playoffs, finishing 1-2 in the round robin tournament.

After a tough season in 2010, the A's were ready to make some noise in the

2011 season. The A's were swept in the 2010 playoffs, losing 3 of 3 in the
round robin tournament. The A's got high draft picks to start of 2011 and
used them on Josh Rubin, Ben Connor, and 10 year-old Collin Walsh.

The A's played hard during the regular season behind pitchers Josh Allen,
Owen Madigan-Fried, Ben Connor and Josh Rubin. Caleb Mazow and Walsh helped the offense score runs for the A's during the regular season.

The A's made the playoffs, opening up in Nahant against the Yankees.
Madigan-Fried and Allen pitched well, but the Yankees got the win. The A's
dropped game two of the round-robin tourney to the White Sox in a close
game, with some key hits by Allen, Ishaan George, Ryan Mareschalchi, and
Walsh in the second game of the playoffs.

The A's were without Seth Pohlmeyer, who was injured during the regular
season.

Needing a win to stay in contention, the A's squared off against the Major
League Tigers, who were also looking for a win to advance in the playoffs.
The Tigers made their last mistake of the season against Madigan-Fried, who
knocked the ball over the fence for a walk-off win for the A's, keeping
their hopes alive in the post-season.

The A's just missed the playoffs, finishing the round-robin with a 1-2
record.

The Major League playoffs are set, after the Indians fell to the Swampscott
Red Sox in a rainy game Sunday evening. The Nahant Orioles will take on
Gavin Sullivan, Spencer Perkins, Mike Johnson and Matt Moran and the rest of
the Yankees Friday night. With a win over the Indians, the Swampscott Red
Sox will take on the White Sox, as the drive to the championship reaches the
final four teams standing.

Will Cronin, Madigan-Fried, Ben Connor Ishaan George and Josh Rubin will all
move on to the next level of baseball after this season.

The Athletics beat the Tigers, lost to the White Sox 6-3, and the Yankees
8-3 to finish the 2011 season.
